Bowman Park, Wisconsin Dells

If you've ever been to the Wisconsin Dells in the summer months, you can understand why it's earned the title Waterpark Capitol of the World. License plates from around the country are poof that it's tourist season and with that comes the crowds. Now, we love The Dells just as much as anybody, but turning left can sometimes be a challenge. So much so, I've been known to map out my entire day based on right turns.

A bit "turned around" on our recent visit to the more historic (older) part of town, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Bowman Park. Located on the South side of Broadway street between Capital Street and Bowman Road, Bowman Park is a respite from the bright lights and billboards.

To begin, the park has plenty of shade thanks to old growth deciduous trees, beautiful cedar, and majestic pine.

Picnic tables dot the grounds, but large groups may opt for the covered pavilion with charcoal grills.

Picnic PavilionThe main attractions for kids is the brightly-colored playground complete with a climbing wall.

Dells LaundromatDoes anyone love these Lion's Club International bubblers as much as I do? (I will also admit to occasionally pretending the lion is eating me just to embarrass my kids!)

Lions Club BubblerAlso located on the park grounds is an old-fashioned band shelter, restroom facilities, a small fountain, and the Dells Country Historical Museum.

Dells Country Historical MuseumWhile the museum was closed during out visit, we did manage to find a geocache container hidden nearby.

Located on the south side of Broadway, which is the main avenue in downtown Wisconsin Dells, this pretty little historic park will surely remind you of all the good things that go with simpler times. There’s an old-fashioned band shelter, pavilion with picnic tables, a playground and lighted basketball courts. Restroom facilities are right there too. Ideal for family reunions, lazy summer picnics and low-tech afternoon escapes with the kids. - See more at: http://www.wisdells.com/wisconsin-dells-area/attractions/bowman-park-wisconsin-dells.htm#sthash.oUq9C9m9.dpuf
