The Shop Around the Corner

A Comedy by E.P. Dowdall

The Wayland Academy Players are pleased to invite the public to their spring play, a comedy: “The Shop Around the Corner.” The show will be held on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Lindsay Auditorium at Wayland Academy. The play is an adaptation by E.P. Dowdall of “Parfumerie,” which served as the inspiration for the 1940 Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan film “The Shop Around the Corner” and, later in 1998, the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film “You’ve Got Mail.” The stage production is a warm comedy that follows the tale of Parfumerie employees during their busiest time of year, the Christmas season, and the complications that abound when workplace romances blossom in a small shop. The cast features Wayland students from throughout Wisconsin and around the world. Cast members from Beaver Dam include Grace Rowley, Andrew Booker, Morgan Mertig, and Paul Derr. Parking for the event is available on University Avenue, Franklin Street, and the Field House parking lots. Tickets will be sold at the door. $7 General Admission; $5 for Seniors and Students. Questions may be directed to director Martha Kesler at Wayland Academy: (920) 356-2120 x.291 or mkesler@wayland.org.
