We all know Feburary is the month of love, but I like to think of it as the special month in the dead of winter when your nerves are almost shot.

Having barely survived last year's polar vortex, I felt compelled to put together a list of Wisconsin's finest resort spa destinations to help us all plan a getaway weekend with our spouse, sister, mother, or significant other.

Each venue is unique in its location, mission, and ambiance, but all are first-class destinations, many of which have received regional and international awards and accolades.

I've tried to include specials and promotions unique to February 2015, but please check the resort website for the most complete and accurate prices, terms, and detailed information.

Kohler: Kohler Water Spa at The American Club Resort

No doubt about it, the Kohler Water Spa is top notch. From the relaxation pool with the cascading waterfalls to the most luxurious locker rooms in the state, you really feel world's away in the lower level spa sanctuary. Running Feb 6-8 is the 2015  In Celebration of Chocolate event features a two-night Chocolate Indulgence hotel package at The American Club. Otherwise, The Celebration Experience offers two-nights lodging at The American Club, brunch, a five-course meal, spa discounts, champagne, chocolates, and a rose petal turndown on the first night.

Elkhart Lake: Aspira Spa at The Osthoff Resort

In the heart of the Kettle Moraine region, Eklhart Lake was once a sacred place for Native Americans. The modern day home to The Osthoff, a AAA Four Diamond Resort and Conference Center, many people come to the region to simply get away from it all. Another of my favorite spas in the state, Aspira Spa is centered around the mind, body, and spirit and has incorporated the elements of wood, earth, fire, metal, and water throughout the spa facility. From the tranquility of the meditation sanctuary to the privacy of the spa suites with whirlpool tubs and gas fireplaces, The Osthoff is truly a fabulous venue for a couple's weekend and the Aspira Couples Getaway package offers a spa credit, dining at Lola's on the Lake, and a dine-out or dine-in breakfast the following morning.

Wisconsin Dells: Sundara Inn and Spa

An adult-only destination, Sundara Inn and Spa has found a quiet corner of the Wisconsin Dells where visitors can recharge and relax. From the popular outdoor heated infinity pool to the purifying bath ritual, Sundara really is a hidden gem. February spa specials include a 20% savings on The Ultimate Chocolate Bath Experience and raspberry and chocolate-themed spa treatments. You'll also find overnight lodging specials in suites with cozy fireplaces and designer spa baths.

Green Lake: Evensong Spa at Heidel House Resort

Nestled in the quiet wilderness on the edge of Green Lake, Evensong Spa is a lovely break from the hustle-and-bustle of city life. Joining in on the celebration of chocolate, spa specials include the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Body Treatment, Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pedicure, and the Chocolate Mousse Facial. Lodging packages at the nearby Heidel House Resort include the Romantic Escape and the Honeymoon Anytime. Also running the entire month of February is the Chef's Tasting experience at the Grey Rock restaurant; a four-course meal with paired with wine or beer.

Lake Geneva: WELL Spa + Salon at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa

Grand Geneva Resort and Spa is adding to its reputation as a classy romance destination with two Valentine's themed packages running the entire month of February: Love is Grand and Lift of Love. While both packages include a two night stay in a deluxe guest room and Anderson Candies, Love is Grand offers a $100 dining credit and Lift of Love includes lift tickets and equipment rentals at The Mountain Top ski resort. Themed specials at the resort's WELL Spa include a Red Velvet Massage; Berry, Wine and Chocolate Delight Transformation Facial; Chocolate Covered Strawberry Bliss Body Treatment; and Red Velvet Manicure and Pedicures.

Milwaukee: WELL Spa + Salon at The Pfister

One of Milwaukee's iconic and historic downtown hotels, The Pfister, has put together a Valentine's Package. For couples looking to take advantage of the WELL Spa, the Spa - Ahhhmazing package offers discounts on both lodging and couples pampering. And while the spa does not currently have any themed-treatments, the person I spoke with on the phone mentioned a $25 bonus card is currently being given to anyone purchasing a $100 gift certificate.

Madison: The Edgewater Spa

The Edgewater is Madison's brand new premiere destination hotel located in the heart of downtown. While I will be visiting for the first time in the near future, I verified The Edgewater Spa will be offering a Couples Massage with Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Champagne package that includes two 60 minute massages, hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of champagne. Three lodging packages were arranged with February in mind: the Ultimate Valentine's Package, The Romance Package, and the Sweetheart Package (all include ice skating for two on the new outdoor rink).
