Dec 02, 2014 10:21AM ● By Julie Henning
The annual Experience the Magic of Christmas event at Heidel House Resort & Spa in Green Lake is a lakeside family tradition filled with many favorite holiday activities.

Running from from 8:30 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, December 13, the event is open to the general public and features  carriage rides, breakfast with Santa, story time with Mrs. Claus, a giant gingerbread house display and cookie, and ornament and wreath decorating.

Start your day in the Dartford Ballroom with an unlimited breakfast buffet with Santa. Reservations are required for both the 8:30 AM and 11 AM seating. The menu includes cheese blitzen with strawberry topping, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, country hash browns, Santa pancakes, and apple cinnamon French toast. Adults are $10.95, children 4 to 12 years are $5.95 and children 3 and younger are free.

Family (2)Old-fashioned carriage rides through the Heidel House Resort’s beautifully decorated grounds occur every 10 minutes between 10 AM and 12 PM (the cost is $3/person). Hot cocoa will be available for purchase in the Pump House Parlor to warm up before or after the excursion.

Cookie DecoratingFor a homemade gift/trip souvenir, participants can decorate a wreath in the Sandstone meeting room (wreaths cost $15 and can be decorated with a wide variety of colorful supplies). But if decorating handmade ornaments and sugar cookies are more your thing, head to the Lower BoatHouse and purchase a cookie or ornament kit for $3.

Mrs. Claus will begin story time at 1 PM in the resort’s main lobby—children gather around the big tree as she reads classic holiday stories.

Giant Gingerbread HouseAnd, once again, the highly-anticipated giant gingerbread house handcrafted by the resort’s chefs will be on display in Gingerbread Cove, located in the main lobby’s business center. The five-foot tall house is made of more than 500 pounds of edible materials including frosting, cookies, candy canes, licorice, M&Ms, and peppermint patties and takes nearly 80 hours to complete.

FamilyNew this year will be miniature gingerbread houses created by Green Lake area children who are participating in the resort’s first gingerbread house competition. The houses will be on display in Gingerbread Cove for voting and prizes.

Reservations are required for Experience the Magic of Christmas activities. For more information, call 920.294.3344 or visit www.heidelhouse.com.
