The Ninth Annual Safety First Open House will be held at Beaver Dam Community Hospital on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. until noon. The community is invited to this fun and free event. See a MedFlight helicopter land on the BDCH Emergency Department’s Helipad at approximately 11 a.m., inspect an ambulance and fire trucks up close and meet local EMTs, firefighters and police officers. There will also be “fatal vision” goggle demonstrations and an onsite car seat safety check station. The Beaver Dam Police Department will be hosting a bike rodeo and bike safety inspection, bike helmets will be given away and there will also be child ID fingerprinting and DNA kits. Bring the entire family as old and young alike will be entertained. A medication drop-off site will be open at the north end of the BDCH parking lot between the main entrance and the ER entrance on Webster Street. Over-the-counter and prescription drugs will be accepted in the original containers. The personal information may be blacked out but the name of the drug must be on the container. Also in the north end of the BDCH parking lot will be a free shredding event. Bring your unwanted personal documents to be professionally shredded by Shred-It of Madison. There is a three-container maximum per customer. Members of the Beaver Dam Optimist Club will be on hand to assist. Those in attendance also have an opportunity to learn CPR from qualified instructors. There will be plenty of information about enhancing the safety and health of your family members provided by the Beaver Dam Community Hospitals’ Medical Clinics, Emergency and Food and Nutrition departments, as well as many other community organizations. This information will be set up inside the main entrance of the hospital and in the conference center. Rain or shine, come enjoy this early summer event with your family.
