Youth Mental Health - First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid Training to Community Members

The Beaver Dam Unified School District will host the Youth Mental Health First Aid Course created by the National Council for Behavioral Health on Saturday, May 14, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The training course and materials will be provided by the Berlin Area School District through the "Now Is the Time - Project AWARE" Grant and sponsored in part by the Psychiatric Associates of Beaver Dam – a service of Agnesian HealthCare. Parents, teachers, religious leaders, community members or anyone who regularly interacts with adolescent youth will benefit the most from attending this course. The 8-hour course will train participants to identify, understand and intervene with youth ages 12-18 experiencing a mental health crisis or problem and discusses how to distinguish typical adolescent development from a mental health issue. The course also focuses on challenging the stigma and stereotypes surrounding mental illness. Prior course feedback reported that the Youth Mental Health First Aid course “corrected some myths about mental health” and was “excellent and eye-opening”. Registration for this event is FREE. Register online at www.bdusd.org/district/studentservices.cfm or by calling the Beaver Dam Unified School District’s Educational Services Center at 920-885-7300 x2134. A light lunch and beverages will be provided. Contact Donna Pivonka, BDUSD Director of Student Services and Special Education, at 920-885-7300 x1121 if you have questions regarding this training event. The National Council for Behavioral Health is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) association of 2,000+ behavioral healthcare organizations that provide treatment and rehabilitation for mental illnesses and addictions disorders to nearly seven million adults, children and families in communities across the country. The National Council and its members bear testimony to the fact that medical, social, psychological and rehabilitation services offered in community settings help people with mental illnesses and addiction disorders recover and lead productive lives.
