Waupun Historical Society Sponsors Native American Talks The Waupun Historical Society is sponsoring Native American talks at the Waupun Public Library on Thursdays at 6:30 PM. The talks will be given by Julie Flemming who is well known for her study of the Native Americans that lived in the area. She will be doing a series of four talks, but it is not necessary to attend all four to gain information on our Native American History in Dodge County and Wisconsin. Attendance at the talks is FREE and refreshments will be served by the Waupun Historical Society. The talks, which will open an important chapter in local history, will be given on the following dates: Thursday, October 8th, 6:30 PM - Native Americans in Fox Lake, WI, 10,000 BC to 1848. Story of how proof that they were present was found. Why did they pick this area of Wisconsin, including Waupun, to live in? Where did they live. ? Thursday, October 22nd, 6:30 PM - How did the Native Americans live in the area? What kind of homes did they have? What foods did they eat? What were some of their customs? (Members of the audience are encouraged to bring and share any Native American artifact that they own.) Thursday, November 5th, 6:30 PM - The Black Hawk War. Why? When? Where? Who was involved? How did it end? Who really was Chief Black Sparrow Hawk and what is his story? Thursday, November 19th, 6:30 PM - What happened to the Winnebago Tribe because of the Black Hawk War? How did they lose their lands? Where were they sent? How did they make it back to Wisconsin? The Waupun Historical Society invites everyone to attend the series of talks.
