John Steuart Curry: At Home in Wisconsin
Although born in Kansas, famed Regionalist John Steuart Curry came to Madison in 1936 as the first artist-in-residence at any US university. He spent 10 very productive years in the city, welcomed by a state and a university that was progressive in both social policy and practice. This is the first-ever exhibition to focus on Curry’s years in Wisconsin and will reveal his love of Wisconsin, engagement with the academic and non-academic communities, and dedication to integrating art into the lives of ordinary citizens.
